Larry brought with him an iPod to pass around. He indicated that he has already had to purchase a second one as his kids commandeered his first unit.

As most of the features were covered in the "What's New -- iPod" presentation, Larry went straight to his iPod demonstration and spent the rest of his time answering questions. There were a few significant points about iPod that were raised during the discussion:
  • iPod can be used as a fully bootable external hard drive.
  • Updating the iPod's contents from iTunes takes just seconds and will do so in the background.
  • Each update, however, will overwrite the previous one. You therefore cannot add songs to an existing playlist. Connecting to a different machine and updating with someone else's playlist will overwrite your own.
  • iPod updates are one way only. You cannot write to the machine from the iPod and you cannot transfer songs from one machine to another.
  • Third party hacks are available that make the iPod more versatile.
  • Even though Apple intended the iPod to be carried in people's pockets, third party carry-cases are becoming available.
