Notable Apple Updates

  • Apple released 10 server- and client-side sercurity updates which patched at least 46 vulnerabilities -- many of which were found by the Month of Kernel Bugs (MoKB) and Month of Apple Bugs (MoAB) projects. This includes 10.4.9, the latest client-side point release.

  • iTunes 7.1.1 for Mac/Windows
    • Requires Mac OS X version 10.3.9 or later
    • Addresses a stability issue and minor compatibility problems with iTunes 7.1
  • iPod Reset Utility 1.0 for Mac/Windows
    • Restores 1G and 2G iPod Shuffles back to factory settings
  • iPhoto 6.06
    • Better EXIF data compatibility and fixes Photocasting vulnerabilities
  • Backup 3.1.1
    • Backup and restore external drives
    • Memory management issues
    • Restore bundled file types
  • AirPort Extreme Update 2007-002
    • For Intel Macs only: improves compatibility with AirPort Extreme base stations and networks
    • Improves functionality for Core 2 Duo MacBook/MacBook Pro when accessing third-party access points configured to use WEP
  • QuickTime 7.1.5 for Mac/Windows
    • Fixed several security issues that all include viewing or opening maliciously-crafted multimedia files that either lead to an application crash or arbitrary code execution
      • Some users have reported that the patch has introduced problems with using QuickTime embedded in web pages

    • Now works with Mozilla Thunderbird
      • This is in addition to Apple Mail, Eudora, Microsoft's Outlook Express and Entourage, Mailsmith, and GyazMail
      • Improved compatibility with pre-release versions of Leopard
      • Detection of spam and phishing images has been improved
      • Message analysis improvements have been made to increase the accuracy of the Baysian filter
  • Radmind 1.8.0
    • ktcheck and lapply will automatically be reported to the Radmind server by clients
    • "Repo" tool logs custom messages to the server
    • Several bug fixes in this version
  • Timbukto Pro 8.6
    • New integration with Skype
    • Mouse pointer when "chaining" is now more accurate
    • Stalling will no longer occur when exchanging large numbers of small files
  • Application Enhancer 2.0.3
    • Fixed a bug so the Preference pane will load correctly
    • 10.4.9 optimization
  • TextMate 1.5.5
    • New features:
      • "Collapsable text blocks"
      • Recordable macros
      • CSS-inspired scope selector system
      • Code blocks with tab-able placeholders
  • Firefox 2.0.0.3
    • Addresses several security issues
    • Now supports more spoken languages including Afrikaans, Belarusian, Georgian, and Kurdish
