Apple Updates

The following notable Apple software has been updated since the release of Mac OS 9.1

MJR 2.2.4 (Mac OS Runtime for Java)
Mac OS Runtime for Java (MRJ) is Apple's implementation of the Java Virtual Machine (JVM), based on Sun Microsystems' Java 1.1.8 specification. MRJ provides the runtime software needed to run Java applets and applications, and the Apple Applet Runner, a simple utility for running applets without the overhead of a browser.

Mac OS Runtime for Java (MRJ) 2.2.4 is an upgrade to MRJ 2.2.3 which addresses a security issue affecting our users. In some cases, this would have permitted unauthorized applets to access the local hard drive

CarbonLib 1.2
CarbonLib 1.2 allows developers to write an application with one set of sources deployed across both Mac OS 8.6, all Mac OS 9 releases and Mac OS X systems with minimal effort.

CarbonLib 1.2 delivers a number of new functionality and features for Carbon-based applications on Mac OS 8.6, all Mac OS 9 releases and Mac OS X.

OpenGL 1.2.1
OpenGL for Macintosh enables your computer to display three-dimensional graphics using applications designed to take advantage of OpenGL. Mac Games are more real, more powerful and more fun.

What's new in OpenGL 1.2.1:

Third-Party Updates

The following notable Third-Party software has been updated:

Clean-Install Assistant 1.5.1
Clean-Install Assistant makes the process easier and faster because it does the sorting automatically (using its list of factory-issue Mac OS files). It'll carefully collect your additions and move them to a separate folder while you update the System Folder, then move them back to the right places inside the new one with a single click!

This version allows moving files from Mac OS 9.1 to a newer Mac OS version, or to/from 9.1 and previous versions.

Conflict Catcher 8.0.8
Conflict Catcher 8 is software for startup file management and conflict testing on your Mac. Conflict Catcher 8 provides you with over 5000+ file descriptions, including file descriptions that are specific to OS 9. These file descriptions range from your common everyday startup files, to plug-ins and filters, and allows you to easily manage these files. In the event of a problem with your system, such as a crash or freeze, Conflict Catcher 8 helps determine which system files are causing the problems.

The Conflict Catcher 8.0.8 udpate add the following features:
  • Added Mac OS 9.1 All and Base sets
  • Updated the Clean-Install System Merge for Mac OS 9.1
  • Updated Reference Library with descriptions for over 5,100 files (including descriptions for Sherlock Internet search sites), Plug-ins, control panels, and extensions
  • Updated all group links
  • Added the ability to define a Mac OS X (Classic layer) default set

DAVE patch for Mac OS 9.1
This patch includes new NetBIOS and DAVE Client files which correct the following problems introduced with the release of Mac OS 9.1:
  • Copying large files to/from the DAVE Client could hang the Macintosh
  • Setup of Desktop printer through DAVE Client was not possible

DiskWarrior Extension 2.0.5
DiskWarrior repairs disks that noother program can repair. Now with DiskShield, DiskWarrior can prevent damage to your disks before it occurs!

The DiskWarrior Extension 2.0.5 will allow it to function with Mac OS versions 8.1 through 9.1. NOTE: That this extension is needed to provide DiskShield funtionality.

PlusOptimizer 1.3
PlusOptimizer is a disk optimization utility that optimizes your disks by defragmenting your files and free space.

This update adds Mac OS 9 - 9.1 compatibility and adds enhanced features when running under Mac OS 9 - 9.1.PlusOptimizer 1.3 now optimizes Mac OS X Extended disks. It also recognizes when it is running in Mac OS X's Classic environment. Mac OS 9 added several new features, including the ability to handle files over 2 GB and have folders with more than 32,000 items. PlusOptimizer 1.3 adds the ability to handle files and folders with these characteristics while running under Mac OS 9 - 9.1.

Extension Overload 5.7.2
Extension Overload is an extensions, control panels, control strip modules and contextual menus management application. It offers detail information of 4430 extensions and control panels, control strip modules and contextual menu items in your system. It also lets you activate and deactivate them, so that you can always easily tailor your system to your current requirements. In addition, Extension Overload includes a useful collection of helpful information and tidbits.

The Extension Overload 5.7 version covers extensions and control panels from Mac OS 9.1. This update has the following features & fixes:
  • Fixes the Navigation Services Missing problem with 8.1 or earlier.
  • Fixes a display/possible crashing bug in the search dialog.
  • Added description of 25 control strips modules, 15 extensions, 27 Contextual Menu Items and 5 control panels.
  • Total of 4430 extensions, extensions, CSM and CMM plugins
  • Better support for non English Mac OS.
  • More URLs and emails have been updated

Rewind 1.1
Rewind's patent pending technology remembers ALL the information that is being modified on your disks, allowing you to return to previous versions of documents, applications, systems, even entire disks. And Rewind's breakthrough (and also patent pending) Emergency Startup Mode allows you to reboot from your hard disk even if you throw away the entire System Folder!

This update fixed a compatibility problem with Mac OS 9.1 where the Macintosh would stop accepting input after mounting a remote volume using the Chooser, and other fixes/features.

Snitch 2.6.6

  • Added Mac OS 9.1 support.
  • Fixed screen-sharing problem that caused host crashes and incompatible version errors on the guest
  • Fixed problem that caused host to go deaf to Incoming connections if another guest tried to connect at the same time.

VST USB Floppy Drive 2.1.6
The VST USB Floppy Drive and associated software are designed to run on Macintosh computer with USB support, and MacOS 8.5.1 or later.

This update has the following features & fixes:
  • Fixes a problem under the Mac OS, versions post 9.0, where two floppy disk icons appear on the desktop.
  • Restores backwards-compatibility for pre-8.6 systems.
  • Adds support for MacOS version 9.1.
