Introduction

Tips and tricks for using SubEthaEdit over the internet behind a firewall.

Firewall

To use SubEthaEdit to share documents over the internet behind a firewall, you must have port 30729 open.

First, open up System Preferences, Sharing Pane and select the "Firewall" tab.

New Port Configuration

Then click on the "New.." and select "Other" from the "Port Name" pop-up menu.

Then enter 30729 for the "Port Number" and "SubEthaEdit" for the "Description".

Other Firewall Options

Also, you could use third-party fire wire software like BrickHouse, Firewalk X 2, etc.

Or if you are a true alpha-geek, you can use the command line and edit IPFW.

Lastly, if you have a Firewall setup via your network hardware like a PIX Firewall, etc. You will need to ask your Network Administrator to open this port.
