What is iTunes U?

iTunes U is a free service for higher education from Apple that provides a means for managing, delivering, and accessing educational content. Content can cover a wide variety of subjects including university news & updates, department or program information, presentations, lectures, training sessions, and guided tours. Supported files include most common forms of audio & video formats, enhanced podcasts, common image formats, text, and pdfs.

Designed to be completely intuitive, iTunes U is based on the iTunes Store, where millions of people already get their music, movies, and TV shows. Now there’s an area of the iTunes Store devoted entirely to education, where it’s easy to search thousands of audio and video files from institutions across the country or just your institution.

Colleges and universities build their own iTunes U sites. Faculty post content they create for their classes. Students download what they need, and go. Learning isn’t just for the classroom anymore. It’s for anytime and anyplace you’ve got a Mac, a PC, Pod, or an iPhone.

The University of Utah iTunes U site, also allows non-course content, like institution, department or group content like updates, events, etc.
