  • Versions prior to the 7.2 update install around 70 MB of files into ~/Library/Application Support. Bad Macromedia — this much junk should be kept in /Library/Application Support instead! Not exactly friendly for users with network home directories with disk quotas. Also very space-consuming for admins that create multiple home directories.
  • Thankfully Macromedia fixed this problem with the Flash MX 2004 7.2 update. Most of the stuff in ~/Library/Application Support was moved to /Library/Application Support — but also note that the Flash 7.2 updater moves the HelpPanel folder out of ~/Library/Application Support into /Users/Shared/Library. If you want to keep the HelpPanel stuff elsewhere, you can create a symlink in /Users/Shared to your new location.
  • The Flash MX 2004 Help function will not work if you remove the "Opera 6.0" folder from the root of the Flash directory. Apparently Macromedia uses Opera 6's webkit to display help files within Flash. The Help panel will display as blank if you remove Opera from that location.
  • The Standard and Professional editions cannot co-exist on a computer because they share the same license files: /Library/Application Support/Macromedia/Flash 7.0 Registration, /Library/Application Support/Macromedia/Flash 2004 Registration
  • If you distribute the license file for the Professional edition, any Flash MX 2004 application will launch as Professional (the only difference between the two is that Pro gives you access to stuff that's present but restricted in the Standard edition). Workarounds anyone?
