Phase 1: Lab Consulting Staff

As they are first individuals whom patrons go to for assistance, the first phase of deployment is designed to familiarize the lab consultant staff with Mac OS X.

For this purpose, Special "Staff Only" OS X stations have been set up for lab consultant staff to use and experiment with.

Machines configured for Lab Consulting Staff follow the "baseline" configuration except where noted below.

Temporary Storage - As with the baseline configuration, users can temporarily save files or make application/OS modifications to the machine, but staff members can save files to the staff file server instead of the local drive

Timeframe - Deployment of these machines has been a top priority so as to expose lab staff to OS X as soon as possible. The majority of them have already been deployed and are in use by lab consulting staff.

The plan is to eventually deploy Mac OS X on all staff Mac computers. We have begun distributing OS X to staff machines on a case-by-case basis. When this will be completed, however, is heavily dependent on how smoothly the overall lab transition progresses, user and staff acceptance of the environment, and availability of frequently used native applications.
